Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 9A Sport in September 2021 as another low cost offering in their popular Redmi line. The “Sport” version offers a few minor upgrades over the standard Redmi 9A while still maintaining an extremely affordable price tag.

Design and Display
The Redmi 9A Sport has a plastic body that measures 164.9 x 77.1 x 9 mm and weighs 194 grams. It’s available in Carbon Black, Coral Green and Metallic Blue color options. The 6.53 inch LCD screen has a 720×1600 resolution and a water repellent coating for some protection from accidental spills or rain. The front is dominated by the large display with thin bezels and a small tear drop notch for the selfie camera.

Performance and Hardware
Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G25 chipset, which is an octa-core processor designed for budget devices. It’s paired with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM depending on the storage variant. Internal storage options are 32GB which can be expanded via the microSD card slot. The Helio G25 should handle basic tasks easily but don’t expect powerful multitasking or graphics performance.

Cameras
For photography, there is a single 13MP rear camera with LED flash. It can capture 1080p video at 30/60fps. Selfies are handled by a 5MP front-facing camera. Both cameras aim to offer decent shots for social media in good lighting conditions.

Battery and Connectivity
A large 5,000mAh battery keeps the Redmi 9A Sport powered for day to day use between charges. It supports 10W wired charging but no wireless charging. Connectivity includes 4G LTE, dual-SIM support, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 and FM radio. The 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port round off the essential features.

Pricing and Availability
In key global markets, the Redmi 9A Sport is available at around 230,000 Naira which is quite impressive considering what you get. This makes it one of the most affordable smartphones money can buy today. For the price, it aims to fulfill basic needs like calling, messaging, social media and light use. Build quality and performance won’t wow power users but as a budget device, Redmi 9A Sport hits the mark.
